ZUBZUB
Fling treats. Make friends. Pet every cat.

๐Ÿพ Overview

ZubZub is a cat-treat-tossing arcade game. Cats are bounding across a moonlit yard and it's your job to fling treats, toys, and catnip at them before they escape. Aim with your mouse, click to toss, and try to make every cat happy. The more cats you feed, the higher your score!

Fun fact: ZubZub is named after the legendary trio of real-life cats โ€” Taco, Zebra, and ZZ โ€” and the silly nicknames their humans gave them.

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ Controls

  • Move mouse โ€” aim the paw cursor
  • Left click โ€” toss a treat

That's it. No keyboard needed.

Pro tip: The paw cursor lags slightly behind your mouse on purpose. This simulates the wind-up of an actual throw. Lead your tosses!

๐Ÿ“‹ How to Play

  1. Click LET'S PLAY! on the title screen.
  2. A round banner appears, then cats begin leaping in from both sides of the yard.
  3. Move your mouse to aim the paw cursor over a cat and click to throw a treat.
  4. If your paw is close enough to a cat, the treat arcs from the bottom of the screen and lands on them โ€” that's a hit! The cat turns into ๐Ÿ˜ป, hearts burst out, and you earn points.
  5. If you miss, you'll see a red miss indicator and the treat arcs off into nothing.
  6. Cats that reach the other edge of the screen escape โ€” "๐Ÿฑ Got away!"
  7. The round ends when all cats have been fed or escaped.
  8. Score at least 40% accuracy to advance. Below that, it's game over.

๐ŸŸ Treats & Reloading

You carry 3 treats at a time, shown as fish emojis at the bottom of the screen.

  • Hit a cat โ€” treats instantly refill to 3
  • Miss all 3 โ€” brief reload pause (~0.8 seconds), then treats refill automatically

When you throw, the treat launches from the bottom of the screen in a visible arc with a purple glowing trail.

Watch out: That reload pause after 3 misses means cats keep running while you're restocking. Make every toss count!

What Gets Thrown?

Each toss randomly picks from the treat bag:

  • ๐ŸŸ Fish
  • ๐Ÿงถ Yarn ball
  • ๐ŸŒฟ Catnip
  • ๐Ÿ Toy mouse
  • ๐Ÿชถ Feather
  • ๐ŸŽพ Ball

๐Ÿ˜บ The Cats

Every cat that appears gets a randomly chosen name from a pool of 75+ names. Some names show up way more than others โ€” especially the real cats and their nicknames.

๐Ÿ”„ Rounds & Difficulty

Each round gets harder. Here's what changes:

  • More cats per round โ€” starts at 10 in Round 1, increases by 2 each round (10, 12, 14, 16...)
  • Faster spawn rate โ€” cats appear more frequently as rounds progress
  • Faster movement โ€” cats move 15% faster with each round
  • Different sky themes โ€” the background shifts colors every round

You need 40% accuracy (cats fed vs. total cats) to advance. Below that, game over.

Round Messages

  • Round 1: "Here kitty kitty..."
  • Round 2: "They're getting faster!"
  • Round 3: "Cats everywhere!"
  • Round 4: "The yard is chaos!"
  • Round 5: "Legendary cat whisperer!"
  • Round 6+: "Are you even human?!"

๐Ÿˆ Cat Behavior

Cats don't move in straight lines (because they're cats). Each one has its own physics:

  • Arc trajectory โ€” cats launch upward and arc back down with gravity
  • Bouncing โ€” a sine-wave oscillation makes them bob up and down
  • Wobble โ€” slight side-to-side drift keeps them unpredictable
  • Gentle tumble โ€” cats rotate slightly as they fly
  • Ground bounce โ€” cats that fall to the grass bounce back up
  • Ceiling bounce โ€” cats that fly too high deflect back down

Cats enter from either side and fly toward the opposite edge. If they reach it, they escape.

Happy Cat Reaction

When you hit a cat with a treat:

  • The cat turns into ๐Ÿ˜ป
  • A burst of hearts (๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’–โœจ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’•) explodes around them
  • The cat slows to a stop, lingers happily, then fades away
  • You hear an ascending chime with a soft purr undertone

Ground Cats

You'll notice ambient cats walking along the ground near the fence. These are just for fun โ€” you can't interact with them. Watch for:

  • ๐Ÿˆ Cats casually strolling by
  • ๐Ÿงถ Cats playing with yarn
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Cats heading to the litter box
  • ๐Ÿ’ฉ Cats having... a moment
  • ๐Ÿ’ค Cats napping on the job
  • ๐Ÿ˜ป Cats catching feelings

๐Ÿง  Strategy Tips

1. Lead the Paw

The paw cursor lags behind your mouse. Don't aim where the cat is โ€” aim where it's going. Smooth, sweeping motions track better than jerky flicks.

2. Hunt the Legendaries

If you see Taco, Zebra, or ZZ on screen, prioritize them โ€” they're worth 300 points, triple the common cats.

3. Wait for the Peak

Cats slow down at the top of their arc. That's the easiest moment to hit them โ€” they're nearly stationary.

4. Don't Panic-Toss

Burning through 3 treats in a frenzy triggers the reload pause, leaving you empty-handed while cats sprint by. Take measured shots.

5. Watch the Arc

Treats launch from the bottom-center of the screen. The hit is based on cursor position at the time of the throw, not the treat's landing spot.

6. Stay Centered

Cats come from both sides. Keep your cursor near the middle and react to incoming cats rather than chasing one to the edge.

7. Use the Bounce

Cats bounce off the grass. If you miss one going up, wait for it to dip back down โ€” it'll briefly slow at the lowest point.

8. Watch Your Accuracy

If you're borderline on the 40% threshold with only a few cats remaining, focus on guaranteed close-range hits rather than long shots.

๐Ÿ˜ฟ Game Over

The game ends when your accuracy drops below 40% at the end of a round. Your final score and stats are displayed, and you can restart from Round 1.

There's no maximum round โ€” the game keeps getting harder until you can't keep up. How many cats can you make happy?
